The Brigata Garbatella volunteer association was established in 2009, in the suburbs of Rome, after the earthquake happened in the same year in the centre of Italy. 

This volunteering association does not limit their help events only with the Pope. In fact, the volunteers aim to spread awareness about the environment, assist in fire escapes and take care of local parks.

Additionally, they inform primary, secondary and high school students about these issues by running lectures and workshops.

To volunteer at an event like the opening of the Holy door a volunteer comes trained. 

"We train by doing English, First Aid and emergency psycology courses." said one of the volunteers of Brigata Garbatella.
