The extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy commenced on the 8th December 2015, when Pope Francis opened the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Church and it will end on the 20th November 2016.

The Church sees the Jubilee of Mercy as a period for the remission of sins, focused in particular on God's forgiveness and mercy. It is an extraordinary Jubilee as it did not take place 25 years after the previous one, but just in 15 years. The importance of the Holy Door is that, if walked through, it has the ability to forgive all sins.

Plenty of Holy Doors are being opened all around the world. The aim is to allow all worshippers to forgive their sins and experience the Jubilee of Mercy in every part of the world. The particularity of this Jubilee is that it is the first Jubilee in which social media is involved, making a big impact on promoting the events.

The Jubilee could not run without the volunteers, who give their time and energy for the perfect outcome of the event. There will now be an examination as to who the main volunteering associations are for an event of this scale.
